LJ Prayas
LJ Prayas
Prayas is an NGO which primarily focuses on educating under-privileged children. Through Prayas the children that belong to deprived society can be endowed with the opportunities to secure their future. Prayas was initiated on 23rd march, 2008 by the students of LJIET under the guidance of Prof. Sushma Jacob, faculty of LJIMS with the support of college management as well. Prayas mainly focuses on upbringing and educating under-privileged children. Along with the education, extra-circular activities as well as moral values are also encouraged in Prayas. As it is said – “Everything begins with an idea”, this initiative is also based on an idea that came through a random incident. Three girls of engineering institute, while passing through the college outskirts noticed some of the children and asked them about their studies. They found that the children were lacking some educational facilities which is must for every child of their age group. The three girls came with an astounding idea of trying to provide those educational facilities to the children. They decided to discuss this idea with their communication skills faculty, Prof. Sushma Jacob. The faculty appreciated their idea and to implement it, the students and the faculty represented their idea to the college management. The college management also appreciated the idea and provided resources to execute the idea. This way Prayas was initiated and the students of LJIET also voluntarily provided their support by contributing their efforts. The team Prayas comprises of the students of LJIET who voluntarily invests their time for teaching these kids. The volunteers teach these kids daily for an hour before college. Even progress report of each child is maintained and is represented in front of the parents during the parent-teacher meetings which are conducted by the volunteers and Sushma mam for discussing academics as well as overall development of child. Also, the kids of Prayas are taught basics of computer and technology in the computer labs of LJIET itself. We all know that
“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy!”
and so the kids of Prayas are given a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talent in LJ’s very own cult-fest “Lumina”. Not only this but for their physical development sports day event is also organized especially for Prayas kids with the support of college management and Prayas team. Prayas kids also celebrate all the festivals with joy and enlightenment. Each and every festival that is celebrated in India, with the same traditions, encouragement and pleasure the festivals are celebrated with Prayas kids by the volunteers and with endorsement of LJ. And due to all these appreciation and support of the college management and consistent efforts of its volunteers, Prayas is contributing towards upbringing and educating the underprivileged children since last 12 years.
