Brief Summary
The Sustainable Environmental Business Project (SEBP) is an experiential learning initiative designed for Semester I students to introduce them to the practical aspects of environmental sustainability within real business settings.
After completing foundational classroom sessions on sustainability concepts, environmental challenges, waste management methods, and sustainable business practices, students now move into hands-on exposure by visiting organizations that actively work in this domain.
SEBP bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and actual industry behavior . Students will observe how companies manage their operations responsibly, how they contribute to environmental development, and how sustainability is incorporated into daily processes. Through this field-based learning model, students gain insights that cannot be achieved through textbooks alone.
This 10-day internship project, organized in two slots, enables students to engage with real organizations, understand their sustainability models, interact with managers, explore on-ground challenges, and prepare a structured learning report. This initiative not only enhances academic learning but also builds early professional maturity.
Objectives
The SEBP program focuses on the holistic development of students through real-world exposure. Its objectives include:
-
To help students understand the practical application of sustainability concepts introduced in class.
-
To expose students to real-time environmental issues, waste management systems, and green business practices.
-
To encourage analytical thinking by observing how companies manage resources, energy, and environmental impact.
-
To familiarize students with the functioning of organizations working in environmental conservation, recycling, and waste management.
-
To provide first-hand learning on corporate operations, teamwork, safety protocols, and daily responsibilities.
-
To help students interact with industry professionals and understand expectations from future managers.
Process
The SEBP process begins with classroom preparation, where students learn key concepts such as sustainability, waste management, recycling, and environmental responsibility through lectures, discussions, and case-based learning. This is followed by an orientation program in which companies introduce their work, expectations, safety guidelines, and available learning opportunities. Students are then divided into Slot 1 and Slot 2 for a 10-day field internship at assigned companies. During the internship, they engage in on-ground observation, interact with staff, understand workflows, study sustainable practices, and document their daily learning. Throughout this period, faculty and company mentors provide continuous guidance and monitoring to ensure smooth progress. Students also maintain a daily diary summarizing their learning experiences. After completing the internship, they prepare a structured SEBP report reflecting their insights. Finally, evaluation is based on the report, attendance, discipline, and participation.
