Report on CPR/BLS Workshop Organized by L.J. Institute of Pharmacy on September 28, 2024
On September 28, 2024, L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals and the Billion Hearts Beating Foundation, organized a hands-on training workshop on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) in honor of World Heart Day . The event aimed to equip 100-110 B. Pharm students and faculty with essential life-saving skills to respond to medical emergencies like cardiac arrest. The training was conducted by Dr. Drupad Karia and Mr. Mehul Thakkar from Apollo International Hospital, Gandhinagar .
The workshop began with a theoretical session covering the importance of CPR and BLS in improving survival rates in sudden cardiac arrest cases. Trainers explained the Chain of Survival, emphasizing early recognition, immediate CPR, rapid defibrillation, and professional medical care.
The practical session allowed participants to practice CPR techniques on manikins, including chest compressions, rescue breathing, and using Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The training also covered rescue breathing techniques for different age groups, trauma management for seizures and burns, and the role of CPR apps in ensuring effective resuscitation.
Participants highly appreciated the hands-on approach, noting the importance of practical training in understanding life-saving procedures. Faculty members emphasized the need for more such workshops to ensure healthcare professionals are well-prepared for emergencies.
The workshop was a success, reinforcing the importance of CPR/BLS training in tackling India’s rising cardiovascular disease burden. L.J. Institute of Pharmacy remains committed to promoting healthcare education and ensuring students are equipped with critical skills to save lives.

Histology workshop:
L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad, organized a three-day hands-on Histology Workshop from December 26-28, 2023, for B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. students. Led by Dr. Rajesh D. Jadav , the workshop aimed to enhance students' understanding of histopathology through practical training.
Day 1 introduced histopathology fundamentals and its pharmaceutical relevance.
Day 2 focused on slide preparation, tissue storage, and an MCQ-based test.
Day 3 catered to postgraduate students, exploring CNS-related tissues, cellular abnormalities, and case studies.
Around 150 students actively participated in discussions, practical sessions, and Q&A segments. The workshop provided valuable insights into histopathology techniques essential for pharmaceutical careers. Interactive sessions fostered peer networking and knowledge exchange. By integrating expert guidance with hands-on training, the workshop enriched students’ theoretical and practical skills, preparing them for research and professional roles in the pharmaceutical field.

Basic Life Support
L.J. Institute of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Billion Hearts Beating Foundation, organized a " Basic Life Support " workshop on January 10–11, 2024. Led by experts from Apollo Hospitals , including Dr. Saket , the workshop aimed to equip students with life-saving skills to handle medical emergencies effectively.
The event began with a theoretical session on the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid, emphasizing their role in improving survival rates during cardiac emergencies. Participants learned about early emergency recognition and the need for a rapid, coordinated response.
Hands-on training sessions focused on performing effective chest compressions and rescue breathing techniques for adults, children, and infants. A key highlight was the training on Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), where students gained both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in using these life-saving devices.
The workshop concluded with a simulated emergency scenario, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired skills under expert supervision. This initiative not only enhanced students’ understanding of Basic Life Support (BLS) but also reinforced the importance of community health awareness. By providing essential emergency response training, the workshop empowered future healthcare professionals with the confidence and skills to act swiftly in life-threatening situations.
