About this course
Architecture is concerned with the design and construction of buildings in their sociological, technical and environmental contexts. There is increasing recognition of architecture as one of the top intellectual disciplines, an art form, and a technical profession intimately linked with the single largest sector of investment in the economy. Architects are called upon to design and execute building projects and resolve other issues related to the man-made environment in a variety of settings.
Architects are the licensed professionals trained in the art and science of building. They are involved in all the phases of the construction of a building i.e. the functional, safety, economical and have to satisfy the needs of its occupants. They are responsible for the planning, designing and supervision of construction works for houses, office buildings, skyscrapers, landscapes, and even entire cities.
There are various opportunities for architects in the construction and designing field. Candidates can apply for private as well as public sector firms. There is a demand for good architects in processes like urban development, interior designing, construction, etc.
Most of the jobs in architecture come up in government organizations such as Public Works Department, the Archaeological Department, Ministry of Defense, National Building Organization, Town and Country Planning Organization, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Departments of Railways, Post and Telegraphs, Public Sector Undertakings, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, National Building Construction Corporation Ltd., etc. While some other organizations or bodies like State Departments, Housing Boards, and Local Bodies for construction works, Builders, Architecture Firms, Consultants, etc. also hire architects.
Architects working independently have ample scope in terms of earning. However, the inherent hazard with independent practice is that the professional undergoes lots of work as he alone has to plan details of sizes, specification and estimates of the cost of the structure, etc.

Param- Student, Architectural Assistanship, LJ Polytechnic
If I say about particular my Architecture department experience, I thank my faculty members for encouraging me to think globally and spread my wings to take off for the land of rising Sun and I appreciate the support of my mentors for shaping my career. At first, I couldn't be able to understand such stuff. But the way they taught us, without doubt it cleared our way of thinking. Something which I am proud to say that I developed here, in LJP, because it helped me to explore the potential & skills that I have within me. Studying architecture in LJ Polytechnic has widened my perspective and has given me an idea of the importance of architecture in today’s day and age. The faculties and staff are very helpful and are always present to clear our doubts and to lead us in the right path. Having studied here for nearly 3 years, my interest in the subject has deepened & reinforced. The memories and lessons learnt will be treasured for a lifetime
Pruthak- Student, Architectural Assistanship, LJ Polytechnic
There are many privileges to be an LJ Polytechnic student. The most important thing I liked the most is the combination of the infrastructure and the faculties. On many stages, faculties have guided us outside the box. It is the best thing a student can ask for. Apart from studies, events and projects keep students engaging in parallel with core subjects and make the experience inside the campus better. The classrooms here are a cherry on the cake...
